Matapouri: Northland, New Zealand

Behold! Just one example of New Zealand’s hidden beauties: Matapouri.

This scenic dream is located towards the top of NZ’s North Island (as you would probably would have assumed from ‘Northland’).

In a way Matapouri reminded me of Palm Springs; I think that was because of the general ‘holiday home’ type vibe that I got. However, Matapouri is on the coast and therefore lines a beach. Quite geographically different to the lovely Palm Springs. Moreover, Matapouri does not have tonnes of shops and hotels.

A Letter To A Younger Me

Hey you.

It has been a while. I hope you do not think that I have been neglecting you. I didn’t realise how much I needed to separate you from me to get to where we are going. So much has happened since we last sat in our favourite places together; I want to speak indisputable truths to you, but I can’t help but think it best that we first remember the place where we first started this journey together.

I know you feel alone. A deep and immovable glass blanket of sorrow burns at the seams of what makes you you. I know the memories have created insurmountable walls to the inner being that lives inside of you. I know you built a tower of steel around yourself. And I know you painted that windowless prison with flowers, so that no one but you would ever see the desolation that ravages the inhabitants of your palace.

For You: Being Patient With Your Journey

This is for anyone that feels like they are not going fast enough;

For anyone that feels they are constantly behind someone or something;

For anyone that feels like they ought to be doing more, trying harder, being better;

This is for anyone that feels failure;

Not just in their heart; But in their soul.

This is for any one that dreams of the future but can’t help but fear the present.

This is for that fear that lives inside of you; But this is also for the you that lives inside of you.

My Life Of Mistakes: Tattoo’s And the Devil’s Gin

Everyone and their mum has an opinion on tattoos, and at this point in my, as I like to call it, ‘tattoo career,’ I think I have heard a solid portion of these opinions.

I have had the stares and the questions; I have had the random people coming up to me thinking that I need Jesus; the ones that tell me I look like yakuza and can never go to Japan; I have had the; ‘you look ugly,’ ‘you’re a whore,’ ‘you don’t look feminine anymore.’ I’ve heard it, I get it. Thank you for the blessings, much love to you too.

This is the kind of stuff you learn to laugh off. People are bastards. But hey! That’s their problem and not mine.

Thankfully we are not here today to talk about bastards, well kind of, maybe at some points. You’ll see.

I’m here to talk about what I’ve learned about tattoos from getting tattoos.

However, proceed at your own risk; you know what they say about tattoos – NOT EVEN ONCE. You can’t even TALK about them or else you will be susceptible to their charismatic charm.

Law School Diaries

I am really excited about this one guys! Welcome to my University Diaries!

In this series I want to talk about tricks and tips that I have learned at law school.

Specifically, I want to focus on the following area; ‘learning how to learn at law school.’ This means that I don’t want to speak to the substantive content as much as I want to really engage with some of the tricks and trips that I have found helpful for actually learning how to get better grades.

Monsters Under The Bed: Self-Awareness and the Fall of Rome.

I consider myself an utter bat case half of the time. Most days I barely have the same pair of socks on, and even then, when I have a day where I’m feeling good about myself, I more often than not will trip in the middle of a crowded area or dribble coffee down my chin, having it land in a poetically ostracised way on my almost definitely wrinkled blouse.

I mean, as a 24-year-old, I am not sure whether there is a right answer to what you’re supposed to be doing with your life. I think most don’t have it figured out in their 20’s. Heck! I don’t think a lot of people get it figured out by their 40’s (even Instagram models and Judges – I swear to ya!).
